Subaru's Logo is Based on a Star Cluster: Three Things We Bet You Didn't Know About Subaru

Subaru is one of the most popular import car brands in the U.S.; known for reliability, affordability, and comfortableness, Subaru manufactures some of the nicest cars around. Subaru car parts and features are highly-ranked and readily available in any Subaru dealer.

Though its reputation is well-known, Subaru has a unique and substantial history many people may not be aware of. Here are three facts that are sure to run your engine:

  1. Subaru's logo is based on a star cluster:"Subaru" is the Japanese name for the Pleiades star cluster. The Pleiades are located above the Northern Hemisphere and have been known throughout the world since ancient times. They are mentioned in ancient texts such as The Odyssey, the Bible, and the Koran -- among others. Subaru based its logo on the Pleiades in 1954.

  2. Subaru started out as an airplane manufacturer: Subaru's parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries, was founded in 1915 and was known as "The Aircraft Research Laboratory." In 1932, it was reorganized as the "Nakajima Aircraft Company" and was a prominent aircraft manufacturer for Japan. Nakajima sold airplanes to the Japanese government in World War II! After the war, the company was reorganized as Fuji Heavy Industries and manufactures cars, airplanes, and transportation technology.

  3. Subaru is well-known for using boxer engines:One feature Subaru cars are well-known for is the boxer engine. The boxer engine (otherwise known as a "flat engine") has multiple pistons move on a horizontal plane. Among other advantages, boxer engines are known for their low center of gravity, their handling precision, and their considerable power. Unsurprisingly, boxer engines are used in certain aircraft. The boxer engine is a standard feature of nearly all Subarus.
Subaru dealerships around the country offer a superior product at a price you can afford. Whether you're looking for a modest used Subaru, a brand new one, or Subaru car parts, Subarus have a proven track record of dependability, comfort, and style.
