The New 2021 Subaru Forester

The Subaru Forester has one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings in its class. More than 80 percent of Forester owners gave the 2020 model a 5-star rating, with another 12 percent rating it 4 stars. The new 2021 Subaru Forester continues that tradition, with several upgrades from the previous year's model. Let's take a look at what the new 2021 Forester has to offer.

Changes in the New 2021 Subaru Forester
There are several new features for the 2021 model year, including:
Adaptive LED headlights are standard on all models
Automatic high beams are standard on all models
7-speed manual mode on the Limited model
Rear center-console storage tray on all but the base model

The adaptive headlights and automatic high beams aren't new for 2021 but in the previous year, they were only available on certain trim levels. Subaru has made them standard on all levels for 2021, including the base model.

Performance and Handling
Subaru's 4-cylinder BOXER engine powers the new Subaru Forester. The engine produces 182 horsepower and makes the Forester one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its class. The 2021 Forester provides 26 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway.

The Forester can tow up to 1,500 pounds and comes with a standard Trailer Stability Assist feature to make towing easier. The 2021 Forester comes standard with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) on all models. The Limited model also offers a 7-speed manual transmission mode for the CVT.

All 2021 Forester models come standard with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. The full-time AWD lets the Forester tackle any road conditions with ease - even very deep snow. Driving the new Forester is a pleasure thanks to its refined, comfortable ride, accurate steering system, and excellent brakes.

The 2021 Forester's Interior
The Forester's good driving position and excellent visibility add to the driving experience. All models, including the base version, have high-quality trim details throughout. The Forester has plenty of room in the back seat, letting you seat five adults comfortably. There's also plenty of storage for longer road trips, with the base model offering 31.1 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 76.1 cubic feet with the seats folded down.

The higher trim levels have slightly less storage space, with 28.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 70.9 cubic feet with the seats down. Even so, this is more space than many competitors such as the Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4. All 2021 Forester models include Subaru's Starlink touchscreen infotainment system. A 6.5-inch touchscreen is standard with a larger 8.0-inch option available on some trim levels.

The Starlink system supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto so you can connect your smartphone to your car to play music, make hands-free calls, and use the phone's navigation software. Or if you prefer a separate navigation system, it's available as an option on some trim levels. All Foresters except the base model also include onboard WiFi with a 4G LTE connection.

Class-Leading Safety Features
Subaru has an excellent reputation for the safety of its vehicles and the 2021 Forester is no exception. It has a 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2020 Forester was also a top safety pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard on all models. EyeSight includes features such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist.
