Projections show that sport utility vehicles, or SUVs, could account for 50 percent of US car sales in 2020. These vehicles are popular because they're extremely versatile, while still being comfortable and fuel-efficient. But all SUVs are not created equal - the all new 2020 Subaru Forester stand tall against the competition. Keep reading to discover everything the all new 2020 Subaru Forester has to offer.

In a league of its own
At 33 MPG on the highway, the all new 2020 Subaru Forester is one of the highest-rated vehicles in its class. The interior of the 2020 Forester also stands out against the competition, as it has one of the largest cargo spaces of any SUV in its class, easily besting competition like the CX-5 and RAV4. It also has a good driving position with excellent visibility in all directions and plenty of space in the backseat, even for adults.

The Forester has more ground clearance than the competition, handling different types of driving conditions better than its competitors. It can even handle well off-road. It's not the vehicle to take rock climbing or forging through creeks, but it can handle forestry roads and other rough terrains quite well.

One of the Forester's biggest selling points is its safety record. It has a 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the 2019 model was rated as a top safety pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Standard Features On the Subaru Forester
All models of the 2020 Forester come with a range of standard features, many of which would be optional on the competition - and were even optional on previous years' Foresters. The 2020 Forester is powered by a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 182 horsepower and 176 foot-pounds of torque. This gives the Forester enough oomph to tow up to 1,500 pounds when equipped with a trailer hitch.

All 2020 models of the Forester use Subaru's constantly variable transmission (CVT). The Sport model adds a 7-speed manual mode, which we'll discuss shortly. All Foresters include a touchscreen entertainment system with Subaru's Starlink interface, two front USB ports for charging, and support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The standard system comes with a 6.5-inch screen with a larger 8-inch available on some models.

EyeSight Safety System
The EyeSight safety package is a dual-camera system placed alongside the rearview mirror. The cameras continuously scan the road ahead of the vehicle to offer several safety features. This package is a big part of the reason the Forester gets such high safety ratings. The EyeSight camera monitors traffic movement ahead of your vehicle to optimize cruise control speeds. Once you set a distance from the vehicle ahead of you, the system adjusts the throttle automatically to keep you at a safe distance, even if the car ahead of you slows down.

EyeSight also offers lane departure control, warning you if you start to drift out of your lane. And its pre-collision braking will apply full-force braking to avoid rear-end crashes. IIHS studies show this pre-collision safety system can reduce injuries from rear-end collisions by as much as 85 percent.

Forester Trim Levels
The 2020 Subaru Forester comes in 5 trim levels:
Base
Premium
Sport
Limited
Touring

Base Model and Forester Premium
The base model includes all the standard features listed above. When you move up to the Premium trim, it adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, body-color side mirrors, a panoramic moonroof, a 10-way power adjustable driver's seat, reclining rear seatbacks, and a built-in WiFi hotspot.

Forester Sport
Moving up a step to the Forester Sport, you get unique sport trim accents, fog lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, proximity sensor keyless entry, Bluetooth support, 2 additional USB charging ports for the rear seats, and automatic high-beam headlights. An 8-inch touchscreen is an option on the Forester Sport. The Sport model also adds the manual mode option to the standard CVT transmission. This includes paddle shifters that give you more control over how and when the transmission shifts.

Forester Limited
Going up one more step to the Limited adds leather-trimmed seats, a dual-zone climate control, voice control, and a power liftgate. The 8-inch entertainment screen is standard on the Forester Limited.

Forester Touring
The top-of-the-line model, the Forester Touring, includes an 8-way power adjustable passenger seat, heated rear seats, a one-touch folding rear seatback, a heated steering wheel, reverse automatic braking, and an upgraded sound system with the larger 8-inch screen. The Touring model also adds Subaru's DriverFocus distraction mitigation system to help avoid distracted or drowsy driving. Hudiburg Subaru has a great selection of all models on the lot.

What's New for the 2020 Model Year?
The 2019 Forester was an all-new generation of the vehicle so 2020 is more of an evolutionary update. That doesn't mean it's not a worthwhile update though. The adaptive cruise control on the 2020 Forester adds an automatic lane-centering feature to help keep you from drifting while on cruise. The tire pressure monitor shows each tire independently to make it easier to identify problems.

All models of the 2020 Forester include a rear-seat reminder that helps you remember to check the back seat before you leave the vehicle. The Touring model also adds overhead LED lighting in the cargo area. And the Premium models include Subaru's All-Weather package as a standard option, compared to an optional upgrade in 2019. This package includes heated exterior mirrors, heated front seats, and a windshield wiper de-icer.
